Everyone craves a good burger every now and again, yet with all these dieters flapping around, desperate to shed the festive pounds, it is often mistaken that burgers are bad. Well yes they are, but only if you are going to eat a beef burger steeped in a blue cheese sauce.
This is a recipe for my turkey and thyme burgers, and believe me when I say, they cut the meaty craving perfectly.
ingredients (makes about 4 burgers)
- 1 medium onion, peeled and halved
- 300g minced turkey
- the leaves from 4 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1 slices wholemeal bread
- 1tsp each of salt and pepper
- 1/2 chicken stock cube
method
- Simply place all of the ingredients into a food processor and blitz into a meaty mess. Using your hands, shape the mixture into four equal sized patties and place onto a baking sheet. Place into the fridge until ready for cooking.
- Preheat the oven to 220C/200C fan, and place the burgers, on the baking sheet, into the oven for about 30 minutes, turning halfway through. If they start to look burned turn the oven down by 20 degrees and allow to cook until cooked through. The best way to test if they are cooked is either with a meat thermometer, or slice one burger in half, if the meat is whiter and there is no pink, it is ready.
- Serve on wholemeal buns for an extra health kick, along with a sauce made with equal parts honey, mustard and low-fat cream cheese.
Tip: don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavours, you could swap the thyme for rosemary, sage, parsley, or any herb you like.
